Default GW books + GW2 release date?

I stumbled across this while reading the GW2 article on the official wiki:

http://isbndb.com/d/book/guild_wars.html

I know all about placeholders and such, but since it was taken from the wiki I assume it's true. Isn't this kinda bad news, meaning GW2 won't be released before late 2010, perhaps 2011? Yeah, I had hopes for a 2009 release a few months ago, and I have hopes we'll see it in early-mid 2010 now, or had, at least until I found that link.

A game like GW2 will probably take around 5 years to develop. If they started at the moment Eotn got released (August 2007), it means there's a good chance we won't see it before 2011, maybe 2010 if we're very lucky.

Another thing to notice is that I think NCSoft doesn't want GW2 to compete with Aion on the European market. Aion gets released in September 2009, so we won't see GW2 the first year and a half after Aion's release which means not before 2011.

Plus, Anet would not have expanded their live team working on GW1 if a new release wasn't within a year away.

It is all a scam anyway, what other way to interest people in GW then promising playing GW1 would give you special rewards in a new game, and at the same time doing absoutely no real update to GW.
Trust and buisness dont go together.

I guess I will trust the Mayan’s calendar since they were smart and got out of here centuries ago. They know something… Seriously…. they know where the stargate is.......

Yeah, that makes sense.

ArenaNet stops making expansions for Guild Wars, and therefore stops making money, in order to get people to play a game that is free to play.

Genius.

Um ... Aion is a completely different game and unlike gw requires you to play on regular basis, it's not a game you buy once, then take it off for a while and go back when you feel like it. Aion wouldn't really conflict with gw sales if you ask me.

I think I recall Regina saying that graph for some reason I don't remember, wasn't accurate anymore. Well there was some kind of justification for that.

I was expecting to see GW2 in late 2010 but now I'm just not sure. The 1st book is coming out in April that year according to that website (don't know if it's accurate or not) with 2 more to follow, will have to be released pretty close together for that. Seems like it's 2011 after all then?

Wow, I thought you were looking forward to GW2, Nokadim.

Anywho, my point (yes, sarcastic ) was that ArenaNet would be making much more money if they released a real expansion, rather than just try to perpetuate a hoax.

This is NOT Duke Nukem. You have NCSoft promoting Mike O'Brien, they wouldn't do that if GW2 was vaporware.

I agree with other posters that GW2 will not come out until Aion has a chance to establish itself. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Beta in 2010, game release 2011.

But even if Guild Wars 2 doesn't come out until 2012, won't it be worth the wait if they take their time and get it right?

Regina isn't exactly forthcoming with any information relating to GW2.

We only found out about that possible release window indirectly via NCSofts quarterly financial projections.

And officially admitting we need to wait a further 2 years wouldn't exactly go down well.

I agree with Gun, NCSoft wouldn't allow any overlap with Aion and we wont hear any kind of GW2 news until its out.

First bold: lololol

Second bold: Yeah, it seems like GW2 is thought to be 10-11 release. Not that new.

Overall: Only the name of the book and the author is the "accurate" info - which is why it is on the wiki. Nothing else should be even taken with a grain of salt...

I would think they started shortly (a few months) before EN's release - one would think that they'd start getting to work (the first steps) after they finish the previous project (last steps). I.e., concept would be starting for GW2 when merchandising is being taken care of for EN.

Despite what others -points to a few posts above this- thinks, I agree. Aion, D3, and GW2 will all have clashing sales. While it is true GW2 isn't like Aion (the whole F2P and P2P concept), it is also true that it is the initial sales that count - especially for GW2. GW2 would get even more sales if released some time away from Aion and Diablo 3. Just like how Aion will get more initial sales if released some time away from GW2 and D3 and how D3 will get more initial sales if released some time away from Aion and GW2.

I'm sure that once no more than a month after Aion releases, we'll get much MUCH more info on GW2 (the "initial sales" stage passes, so they'll bring interest to other products that are sponsored by NCSoft).

Only if Anet aren't going to sit on their asses for a while. Which, by the way, I highly doubt will ever happen.

I am looking forward to GW2 and yes they would be making more money with a new campaign.
But this way they are gonna hype the patient people on GW2 and still make money from GW1.
But I mean yes,MMO of that caliber need 5 years to be made.
But they are working on GW2 at least for 2 years+the time they were working on EOTN and they got ideas from Utopia.
So,my question is after at least 2 years, and probably even 3 years of working on GW2,why there isnt even a single Dev journal,1 SS,1 gameplay video?
They even wont hype it...

Yes I thought about that too. But if the rumours are true and GW2 will have more elements of a traditional mmo, the situation may change. Especially because GW2 is free to play, at least that's what Anet says atm.

Yes, I can feel it in my toe and it seems I'm not the only one. Anet has to watch out for Diablo3. I'm a fan of both software houses and I'm looking forward to both titles, but D3 got the upper hand last months. I think Blizzard is just sitting it out.

If she did at all say that, please provide a link. It is very unlikely she said anything regarding that GW2 release timeline. Plus, I would like to know (if this is true) whether the timeline is now pushed back farther or moved up. I know the likely scenario is that it is moved back.

About the book:
There is a small chance I will even be interested in GW2, there is a 0% chance I will read a book about game lore that I know enough of already tyvm. Even the Halo book series irritated me, and I know many people who think that is some of the best reading based on a game around.

It's sort of a shame that Anet is trying to do things the "traditional" way done by Blizzard and so many others. Anet has never done a book, and while there is always a first time for everything, I doubt their first time will be a "big hit."

But you know, if it isn't on GW.com, it's probably fake.
